Abstract
A male goat was presented with a history of accidental ingestion of large amount of rice, anorexia, abdominal distension and diarrhoea. The rectal temperature, pulse, respiratory rate and the ruminal motility was 101.1°F, 73/min., 33/min and 0/5min. respectively. For confirmation, rumen fluid was collected from left paralumbar fossa and rumen fluid pH was 5.6. Freshly collected rumen fluid was immediately subjected to physical, chemical and microscopic analyses. Goat was treated with Sodium bicarbonate as 10% solution intra ruminally along with Oxytetracycline @ 5mg/kg b.wt. intra ruminally once daily for 3 days. Supportive therapy included pheniramine maleate and isotonic fluid therapy as per dehydration. The response of the treatment was evaluated on day 4 post treatment based on improvement in the clinical condition of the goat and improvement in the physical, chemical and microscopic characteristics of ruminal fluid. The condition of goat was completely recovered on day 5 post tretament.

Key words: Ruminal acidosis, goat, sodium bicarbonate, oxytetracycline
