Pranav Kumar, Amandeep Singh and Dhirendra Kumar.

Abstract
Climate Smart Farming (CSF) is an approach for sustaining the farming by creating resilience in the
practices through reorientation or transformation in the changing climate scenario. Climate change is true
and affecting all types of farming globally. Agriculture is quite vulnerable to climate change due to
changes in temperature, flash floods, droughts, etc. Similarly, measurable effects of climate change can
be witnessed on livestock production through reduction in yields, spread of diseases, breeding problems,
physiological changes, etc. Thus, there arises a need to develop climate smart methods for undertaking
livestock farming in a sustainable and profitable way. Various working models pertaining to Climate
Smart Livestock Farming (CSLF) in different parts of the world ensuring resilience and sustainability has
been discussed in this paper. Approaches to climate smart livestock farming in the form of improved
husbandry practices like genetic improvement of livestock, scientific housing, optimum nutrition, better
herd management and utilization of digital technologies for combating with the climate change have also
been discussed. Further, in developing nations like India where majority of the livestock farmers are
marginal to small, the role of extension and advisory services is critical for sustainable and climate smart
livestock farming and combating the climate change.

Key words: Climate Smart Livestock Farming, Climate change, Extension, Management, Models.
