Surgical Management of Dystocia Due to Fetal Maceration in Pluriparous Crossbred Cow

Abstract
A five-year-old, full-term pregnant crossbred cow with a history of full gestation, foetal death, and foul-smelling discharge was brought to the attention of the Veterinary Clinical Complex at the Bihar Veterinary College in Patna, Bihar. Foetal bones were found in the uterus during per-rectal examination, confirming foetal maceration. It was unsuccessful to dilate the cervix by giving valethamate bromide and cloprostenol. The macerated foetus was removed by caesarean section. Following surgery, the animal received IV fluids for seven days along with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, antihistamines, and ecbolic. After the course of medication, the cow recovered without incident and resumed the usual activities.
